Table Talk Report 1

Technical Challenges:

  • light bulb
  • weeds > man power.
  • Water + Sewage

Adaptive Challenges:

  • low follow up on those not coming to church
  • less members
  • scare people to attend (SA elders)
  • the rest of the world needs adaptive change
  • appearance – sign outdated.
  • Next door neighbours not coming
  • people outside the church believe in God, but don’t want to come to church
  • cliquey
  • people come, we’re friendly, but eventually people still leave
  • fear of changing our beliefs to attract people
  • our own young people aren’t coming – sports competing
  • low priority for church Increase zeal
  • fewer people to bear responsibility

Technical Challenges:

  • fix weed problems
  • reorganize the garage
  • Add lights & Camera to stop “Bad” Activities
  • sign that areas are being surveilled

Adaptive Challenges:

  • What you note you won – new people we need to welcome them and follow up. Haven an attitude reach out.
  • Adopt new style of message “Accept message service”
  • adapt new culture, changed, activities and “feeling” new needs
  • people need to go out – not wait for things “the church” to come to you

  • limited number of people to volunteer/maintenance
  • sewer/water not connected to city
  • location: St Albert vs Sturgeon (road closures)
  • sign – church sign out of date

Adaptive Challenges:

  • congregation reducing in #s
  • perception that churches in a bubble, removed fr reality of society
    • especially in social issues ext LGBTQ2S + climate change
    • church doesn’t speak the language of the culture
  • Age gap old + young but no middle
    • youth not heard (safe space)
  • we (the church)don’t look appealing (missing outreach)
    • child and youth services
    • conflicting extracurricular activities w/ worship time
    • what is CCC doing to make their presence known at community events (make ourselves available to community)
  • difficulty in seeing alternative perspectives
    • underrepresentation (help) of diversity (abilities, ethnicity, economic status, gender)

I’ve tried to group the items by similarity. The outcome of the Adaptive category is interesting in that so many items fit in the top category or Culture Disconnect/Change. The ones listed first are ones it seemed were mentioned most. Some from the original lists are then not repeated in this list because they are one-ofs. This process is quite subjective and I want to admit that.

Technical Challenges summary:
